About Me

Me (left) and my partner Tyler (right)

My name is Joel and I’m a software professional working out of Edmonton, Alberta. My professional interests encompass quality application support, DevOps practices and site reliability engineering. I currently work as a Systems Analyst at the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta. My role focuses on providing support to business end users, responding to production incidents, managing environments and building deployment automation. From time to time, I’m also involved in data reporting and investigating data quality issues.

My heaviest deadlift of 240kg / 528lbs, performed in 2018, in competition.

Outside of work I like strength training and healthy cooking. I train up to four days a week, focusing on my Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift strength. I’ve done a handful of Powerlifting meets, though it’s been years since my last competition. When I’m not at the gym, I’m probably walking my dog, Zuko, or watching some sci-fi with my partner Tyler.

If you would like to get in touch, I can be reached by email at me@joelj.ca. Thanks for visiting my blog!
